다음은 학교측에서 뉴질랜드 홈스테이 가정에 협조를 당부하는 안내문입니다.

  GENERAL HELPFUL TIPS

YOU are the student’s Kiwi Parents-parent them, they are at a vulnerable time in their young lives.

Communication is vital at all times.

Encourage your student/s to have rostered household chores.

Give clear concise expectations to your student. Writing these down is helpful.

Encourage your student to be involved with the wider English speaking community by way of: Kiwi friendships, sports clubs, music groups, youth groups, churches etc.

Teach your student to lead a balanced life, study, socializing, family time. They are all equally important to their holistic learning.

Take an active interest in your students’ culture; ask them to share about their family and lives back home.

Keep good boundaries in place for the use of the internet and social networking sites? Do not allow the student to have access to computers in their room unless specifically negotiated each time.

Communicate directly with adults/parents when you have a student who wants to stay with friends, unless they are able to give you all contact details, names and addresses then you must say NO to their request to stay elsewhere. If you allow your student to stay elsewhere then our office MUST be informed too.

Curfews these are a privilege not a right. If you have a student who is going out EVERY weekend and not doing study or integrating with your family then they are leading an unbalanced life. Look at making some compromises with the student.

Encourage your student to invite friends’ home (especially Kiwi friends) to meet you.

Do not allow your student to opt out of joining your family on excursions unless there are very valid reasons.

Have in place appropriate consequences for behavioral issues i.e. groundings, loss of privileges, extra chores. Always make sure the student understands why these situations and consequences have been put in place
