Join your kids up for summer reading!  (여름방학 독서 프로그램)

Holidays are not only a break from school, but for some kids holidays are a break from reading. During term time, most children will read at school every day, and their reading levels and confidence grow. “But come Summer, many kids just stop or read very little for fun, and that leads to what’s called the Summer Slide – a return to school with lower reading levels” says Michelle Anderson, Children’s and Teenagers’ Librarian.

That’s one reason that Tauranga City Libraries run the popular Summer Reading Programme. “It’s a fun, free programme that gives kids prizes – incentives – for reading library books” explains Michelle. The theme of the programme is “Be a legend – Read” and it will run at all the Tauranga City Libraries. “We get lots of positive feedback about the Summer Reading Programme. It encourages children to keep reading, and they enjoy their prizes. Parents see the confidence of the children grow when they do their “report-ins” – talking about their books with the library staff” says Michelle.

The programme is open to 450 children aged 5-11, and enrolments begin Monday 5th December

Teen Mean Reads 란 청소년 독서 프로그램도 무료로 운영이 됩니다.

여름 방학 독서 프로그램은 12-18세 청소년 대상.
