Kia Ora, from the BoTCom team, as we welcome back those delightful Daylight Saving days - and contemplate balmy summer evenings (Stop whingeing! They will happen).

If learning a new water sport from sailing to kite surfing is high on your wish list for this summer - a spot at the edge of Tauranga Harbour is the perfect place to start.  Elements Watersports based beside the harbour in Kulim Park is a centre with a strong track record. In Spotlight we profile this company that offers a big variety of courses and packages, along all the right equipment and instructors to get you sailing, paddling, windsurfing and more. Get along to their Open Day on Sunday 3rd October at Kulim Park for a ‘taster’ of what they have to offer.

And while Tauranga is well known for its dolphin watching, a local adventure tours company offers some offbeat experiences – including a kayak tour to watch stingrays feeding. Adventure Bay of Plenty also runs Kayak with the Seals tours at this time of year. See Spotlight for more details.

The latest Lonely Planet New Zealand guide book is out, showering praise on the Bay of Plenty.  The writers say Tauranga is an old workhorse “reborn as a show pony.” Mount Maunganui is rated as “an enclave unto itself, with great cafes and restaurants, hip bars and fab beaches.”  You will of course, find more detailed information right here in BoTCom, but if you must buy LP, we have a good tip to save you heaps. You can buy the Bay of Plenty chapter for a mere $5 Australian online at shop www.lonelyplanet.com

우리 지역 베이 오브 플렌티 부분만을 따로 구입할 수도 있다고 합니다.

How many food stores can claim to ‘taste everything’ before they sell it? The new Gourmet Trader in Maunganui Road, downtown the Mount, does exactly that says owner Dave Todd. GT offers up some tempting Kiwi-made produce such as Pic’s ‘really good peanut butter which comes from Nelson, and Proper Had Cooked Crisps made with Marlborough sea salt- also from sunny Nelson.  There is a lot of farmer’s market type produce, says Dave, includingBase Camp venison from the Kaimais. We went snooping and also found a big range of Italian canned goods, juices and a wall full of spices. Green Bean ‘eco tableware, plates, forks, etc, all made from untreated bamboo, is a nice novelty line.
